At Leitch, all classrooms have a maximum 20:1 student to teacher ratio. Our primary focus is student learning. Our teachers meet weekly by grade level to plan instruction, curriculum, assessment, and homework. All teachers are trained and/or certified in teaching English Language Learners. Leitch students participate in integrated computer instruction in our fully equipped Computer Lab and receive high quality physical education instruction from our P.E. specialist. Literacy is promoted with weekly visits to our library. “Teachers Assisting Leitch Kids” (TALK), is a team of trained teachers who work with classroom teachers to provide interventions for students at risk. Before and after school intervention classes are conducted by our staff to ensure student success. We have a full time Speech and Language Pathologist, Dzi Ha; a part time Resource Specialist, Melanie Vianna; and part time Psychologist (not shown below) to serve students with special needs. Students needing more challenging curriculum are provided differentiated instruction within the regular classroom.
We are also fortunate to have a community of parents that are highly involved in our students’ success. In addition to our many classroom volunteers, our P.T.A. sponsors educational programs such as Music for Minors, Fine Arts Mini Experiences (FAME), and our Readathon. Our P.T.A also coordinates parent volunteer efforts throughout the school and provides supplies for disaster preparedness. Our parents are involved in decision making bodies such as our School Site Council, Technology Committee, Library Committee, Safety Committee, and English Language Learner and Ethnic Race Relations Committee. Parents are a vital part of our decision making and serve as welcome participants in our daily activities. |
